Strength That I Should Hope

In obtaining this little book, you might feel strength is something you left in the past, and the future holds little hope. Sadly circumstances often bring us into times when we can despair even of life itself. These are provided to help comfort and calm those facing great adversity. One person on three occasions asked themselves the question, "Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me?" As the writer further contemplated their situation, they began to understand that the only way to look was up. This finally brought a positive response, 'Hope thou in God.' God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform; He plants His footsteps in the sea And rides upon the storm. Deep in unfathomable mines Of never failing skill He treasures up His bright designs And works His sovereign will. Ye fearful souls, fresh courage take; The clouds ye so much dread Are big with mercy and shall break In blessings on your head. Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, But trust Him for His grace; Behind a frowning providence He hides a smiling face. WILLIAM COWPER (1731-1800)
